THEIR STORY.

• Rio (a girly-girl with dreams of becoming a gold medalist in rhythmic gymnastics) was nine years old when she went to visit her mother's side of the family in Aspen, Colorado. When Denver was flattened by the bombs, the blowback wasn't immediate, but when it came, it was terminal. Her family was rounded up under the level eye of an uncle who'd bought into wellness propaganda years earlier and had already been Veiled, and arrived accompanied by droids. Rio doesn't remember much about the events of that day, only that she was told to run... and so run she did.

• Running only got her so far. Eventually, she had to hide. There, in the rubble, she found another displaced girl, Remy; clinging together, they found survival in scraps, until they were able to find a better way with a ragtag drifter group. Earning her keep meant learning to play to her strengths, and so Rio learned how to steal.

• And then when Rio was [age], she, along with Remy, was caught, chipped and delivered to a pres city, where she lived in a (mostly) pleasant fog until Remy, fighting the implant, managed to negotiate an extraction for both of them after seven years of living under the Veil. Coming out of it was traumatic and Rio never wants to think about it again. 💋

• Bided her time in the stronghold by sharpening her skills as a thief and smuggler until she was old enough to be considered for recruitment by Dislinked.
